Camp Luna is a nature-based camp for girls ages 14 - 17 (entering 8th grade through entering 12th grade) that combines mentoring and outdoor programming as an opportunity for relationship, challenge and growth. Girls from the Rogue Valley will sit in smaller circles along with other girls and women who have been trained by The Rose Circle to listen, support and encourage. Through art projects, 'play-shops', spending time in nature, games, hiking, campfires, and other activities, girls will learn more about their own choices, thoughts, boundaries, and emotions. The bonds they form may then be carried into the following school year, as each girl decides if she wants to continue to meet on a regular basis, either one-on-one with a mentor or with a circle of girls.

Activities

Two of the many exciting activities we have every year at Camp Luna are:

Play-shops: Women volunteers from the Rogue valley come to the camp for a day to teach campers an in-depth class. Past offerings have included African dance, painting, journaling in nature, knitting, beauty spa, finding your true singing voice, and much more!

Talent Show: Everyone loves the informal yet powerful opportunity to get on stage and share their gifts. Last year, Lady Gaga arrived on the scene to be our MC, the dance class shared what they learned, we got to witness a "being positive" contest, several people sang onstage for the first time ever, and much, MUCH more!

How Can I Volunteer?

This camp would not be possible without the support and help of volunteers. There are many different roles and capacities in which one can assist in the preparation, delivery, and/or breakdown of Camp Luna.

• 8-10 women volunteers (Rose Mentors) are needed during Camp Luna to support and help with all aspects of camp. Women stay throughout the duration of the camp in order create a strong and safe container for the girls. The Rose Mentors are required to take the weekend Mentor Training.
• There are many other opportunities to volunteer for tasks prior to and after camp for those who aren’t interested or available in being a Rose Mentor. Some of these volunteer needs include: putting up flyers, helping set up camp, supporting the girls in the Luna Lift-Off, helping with food donations, organizing the Luna Community Celebration.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm!

From one of our parents...

My daughter came home for the first time ever from a camp so happy. She use to come home and would be in tears and say I am never going back. This was about the 8th one I tried and I could not believe the difference in her when she came home. She was not arguing, yelling, fighting all the time. She was willing to help with things she would fight to do before. She was very depressed before she went and when she came back she said she had a reason to live, she now knows that she is special and looks forward to live. THANK YOU SO MUCH WORDS CAN NOT EXPLAIN HOW DEEPLY THANKFUL I AM THAT SHE HAD THE CHANCE TO GO. IT CHANGED HER WHOLE OUTLOOK ON LIFE. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A SPOT IN MY HEART FOR CAMP LUNA AND ALL THOSE THAT WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP MY DAUGHTER.” - CB

Where and when is Camp Luna?

Camp Luna 2012: We are in the planning stages for this year's Camp Luna, under the direction of our new Camp Coordinator, Kim Lovelace (see "About Kim")! Dates have been set for Thursday through Sunday, August 2-5 (with a staff day on Wednesday August 1). Please visit this website often for up to the minute updates on this year's camp!

Camp Luna 2011 Camp Luna took place from Thursday, August 18 through Sunday, August 21, 2011 at private retreat land outside of Ashland, Oregon. Girls gathered with their family, friends and community members for a Luna Lift-off on Thursday, August 18 at Hidden Springs Wellness Center in Ashland. From here, the girls and Mentors were transported on a bus to the Camp site. Camp concluded on Sunday, August 21 at Noon with a Community Celebration again at Hidden Springs.

Is Camp Luna new?

Camp Luna was birthed out of a pilot overnight camp-out we had in August of 2007. Because of the success of that experience, we saw the potential for a longer and more in-depth opportunity for girls to explore themselves through their connection with the natural world. Thus, the idea for Camp Luna 2009 emerged. Unlike the first camp-out that was designed specifically for girls and mentors who were already in circles, Camp Luna is now open to the larger community of girls and women.

How much is Camp Luna?

From one of the girls...

"I felt like I really grew up in an amazing way at Camp. I was able to open up is a way I rarely can. I especially loved finding out who the other girls really were without the masks we put on in our daily lives. I also felt like I'm taking home something really valuable."

This project is supported by Women Living Leadership to encourage and empower girls to live balanced lives within their families, schools and communities.
